Kyle Posey, currently the Senior Producer at Niners Nation, has been covering the San Francisco 49ers since 2019. A former FCS wide receiver and longtime high school football coach with over eight years of experience, Kyle blends his deep football background with an accounting education to deliver a data-driven, analytical perspective on the team. He’s contributed to various platforms and made frequent podcast appearances.
While the 49ers had a relatively quiet offseason in free agency, one notable addition who could play a key role is wide receiver Demarcus Robinson. With Brandon Aiyuk potentially sidelined early in the season and Deebo Samuel now gone, Robinson may see an increased share of the passing game.

On Monday, Robinson revealed on Instagram that he’ll wear No. 5 — previously worn by Trey Lance. That means fans can dust off old Lance jerseys if they want to keep repping the number. The Niners have largely preserved No. 5 since Jeff Garcia last wore it in 2003.

Aside from a brief stint by David Carr in 2010 and punter Bradley Pinion’s run from 2015 to 2018, only a few others — including Chase McLaughlin, Randy Gregory, and Josh Dobbs — have sported the number. Now, it’s Robinson’s turn.
