Former Alabama offensive line commit Mason Short is once again in the spotlight as he considers scheduling a final official visit with the Crimson Tide. Short, a four-star prospect from Evans High School in Georgia, initially committed to Alabama but reopened his recruitment following coaching changes. Despite this, Alabama’s new head coach Kalen DeBoer and his staff have made concerted efforts to re-engage Short, including multiple visits to his high school.

Short has been a highly sought-after recruit, with programs like Clemson and Georgia also vying for his commitment. Standing at 6-foot-6 and weighing 315 pounds, he has demonstrated versatility and agility on the field, making him a valuable asset for any collegiate offensive line. Alabama’s persistence in recruiting Short underscores their interest in bringing him back into the fold. In addition to Short, Alabama has been actively pursuing other former commits.

For instance, offensive line coach Chris Kapilovic recently visited Zykie Helton, a 2026 prospect from Georgia who had previously committed to Alabama. Helton’s recruitment has seen interest from several programs, but Alabama remains a strong contender. Another notable case is that of Kadyn Proctor, a five-star offensive lineman from the 2023 class.

Proctor initially left Alabama for Iowa following Nick Saban’s retirement but returned to the Crimson Tide via the transfer portal. His recommitment and subsequent performance have been well-received, with teammates acknowledging his dedication to the program. These instances highlight Alabama’s proactive approach in maintaining relationships with former commits and their families, ensuring that the door remains open for potential reunions.
