Despite never having reached a Super Bowl, Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen remains one of the top talents in the NFL. He’s consistently posted elite numbers among quarterbacks and was rewarded with the 2024 MVP award.
Now, in a newly released post-draft power ranking, Allen is receiving significant recognition—something Bills fans can certainly take pride in.
Best NFL Quarterbacks Heading Into Upcoming Season
Brad Gagnon of Bleacher Report released a May 7 feature ranking the NFL’s top quarterbacks heading into the 2025 season, combining the “eyeball test” with a mix of traditional, rate-based, and advanced stats from Pro Football Reference and Stathead. At the top of his list? Josh Allen.
Despite a close call between Allen and Lamar Jackson, Gagnon ultimately gave Allen the edge, noting it’s “only a matter of time” before the Bills quarterback breaks through to a Super Bowl. Gagnon praised Allen’s consistent excellence over the past five seasons, highlighting that Pro Football Reference’s Approximate Value metric places him as the league’s most valuable player since 2020—by a wide margin over both Patrick Mahomes and Jackson.

While acknowledging Jackson’s dynamic rushing ability, Gagnon pointed out that Allen has nearly double the career rushing touchdowns (65) compared to Jackson’s 33. He called the debate a “toss-up,” but said Allen has been slightly more dependable and productive lately, though the battle for the top spot remains open going into the 2025 season.
More Praise for Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen
In his May 7 feature for CBS Sports, NFL analyst Cody Benjamin also ranked the league’s top quarterbacks following the 2025 NFL Draft, but his take contrasts sharply with Brad Gagnon’s. While Gagnon placed Josh Allen at No. 1, Benjamin ranked the reigning MVP fifth overall.

Benjamin acknowledged Allen’s strong 2024 campaign—his most efficient to date—despite leading a revamped receiving corps. However, he suggested Allen still hasn’t shaken the narrative of falling short against the Chiefs in the postseason, similar to Lamar Jackson.
Surprisingly, Benjamin named Jayden Daniels of the Washington Commanders as the No. 1 quarterback. While admitting to some “recency bias,” he emphasized Daniels’ poise and electric play during his standout rookie season, which nearly ended with a Super Bowl appearance. According to Benjamin, most NFL teams—contenders included—would jump at the chance to have Daniels as their franchise quarterback.
