Former Philadelphia Flyers assistant and interim head coach Brad Shaw has reportedly been hired by the New Jersey Devils as an assistant coach.
Shaw didn’t stay on the job market for long. After being passed over for the Flyers’ head coaching position—which went to Rick Tocchet—despite being considered a strong candidate, Shaw decided not to return to Philadelphia in a supporting role. Instead, he’s landed with a division rival.

Known as one of the NHL’s top assistant coaches, Shaw has built a reputation for developing defensemen and instilling strong defensive structure. His work with John Tortorella in Columbus and Philadelphia helped elevate players like Zach Werenski and Jamie Drysdale. Shaw’s ability to mentor young blueliners will be a significant asset in New Jersey, where the Devils boast a promising group that includes Luke Hughes, Simon Nemec, and eventually Anton Silayev and Seamus Casey.
Under an offensively-minded head coach like Sheldon Keefe, Shaw’s defensive expertise could provide the Devils with a well-rounded coaching balance. If he can replicate his success from past stops, Shaw could help push New Jersey to a new level.
All the best to Brad Shaw in his new role.
