The Boston Red Sox acquired first baseman Ryan Noda from the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday in exchange for cash considerations.

Noda had recently been designated for assignment by the Angels, and the trade gives the Red Sox another option at first base.

Following the deal, Boston optioned Noda to Triple-A Worcester. To clear a spot on the 40-man roster, outfielder Masataka Yoshida was moved to the 60-day injured list.

The Red Sox have been searching for reinforcements at first base after Triston Casas was ruled out for the season due to a knee injury earlier this month.

Noda, 29, appeared in 164 games with the Oakland Athletics over the past two seasons, hitting .212 with 17 home runs, 58 RBIs, and a .713 OPS. This year, he played 38 games with Triple-A Salt Lake, batting .148 with four home runs, eight RBIs, and a .633 OPS.
