The Boston Red Sox hold a 27-28 record and trail the New York Yankees by 6.5 games in the AL East. They’ve lost Triston Casas for the season, and now Alex Bregman is dealing with an injury that could sideline him for a while. The team’s offense needs reinforcements. While top prospects like Marcelo Mayer and Roman Anthony could provide a spark, adding a proven major leaguer might offer a greater impact.

Jim Riley of BALLCAP Sports believes the Red Sox will pursue a trade for Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Rhys Hoskins. “Boston might be the most in need among buyers and also face the steepest challenge,” Riley said. “I expect them to stay aggressive and land Rhys Hoskins.”

Hoskins fills a key position of need for Boston and is performing well this season. After a down year in which he hit 26 homers but managed just a .214/.303/.419 slash line, Hoskins has bounced back in 2025, batting .288 with seven home runs and a .912 OPS in May. He’s producing consistently against both left- and right-handed pitching and could become available if the Brewers fall out of the playoff race.

Hoskins signed a two-year, \$34 million contract with Milwaukee last offseason and has an \$18 million mutual option for 2026. He could be a valuable short-term upgrade for the Red Sox without committing them beyond this season.
