‘We Suck Right Now’: Red Sox Outfielder Bluntly Assesses Team Amid Three-Game Skid

The Boston Red Sox didn’t stay above the .500 mark for long. After briefly improving to a 27-26 record earlier this week, they’ve dropped three straight games—two against the Baltimore Orioles and one to the Milwaukee Brewers—falling to 27-29 overall.

Following Monday’s 3-2 loss at American Family Field, Red Sox outfielder Rob Refsnyder was blunt in his assessment of the team’s performance at the Memorial Day checkpoint:

“We suck right now,” he said, per The Boston Globe’s Alex Speier on Bluesky.
A harsh—but honest—evaluation.

Refsnyder also admitted there are “no excuses” for the team’s poor play, though he noted the clubhouse remains strong and the players continue to put in the work, according to Speier.

With injuries taking a toll and top prospect Marcelo Mayer recently called up, the Red Sox sit third in the AL East, three games back from a wild card spot. They’ll look to rebound Tuesday night as the series with the Brewers continues, with first pitch set for 7:40 p.m. ET.
