San Francisco, CA (May 27, 2025) – San Francisco Giants manager Bob Melvin will be honored with induction into the Irish American Baseball Hall of Fame on June 6 at Oracle Park. The ceremony will take place before the Giants’ Irish Heritage Night game against the Atlanta Braves.

Melvin, whose grandmother Mary Dolan was born in County Cavan, Ireland, expressed pride in the recognition.
“My Irish grandmother would be so proud of this honor,” said Melvin. “She was an important influence in my childhood and it’s because of her that I consider myself a proud Irish American.”

A Bay Area native, Melvin was born in Palo Alto and raised in Menlo Park. He played at Menlo-Atherton High School and the University of California, Berkeley, before enjoying a 10-year MLB career that included stops with the Tigers, Giants, Orioles, Royals, Red Sox, White Sox, and Yankees. After retiring as a player, he transitioned into scouting and coaching.

Melvin served as bench coach for the 2001 World Series champion Arizona Diamondbacks and made his managerial debut in 2003, leading the Seattle Mariners to 93 wins. Over the years, he’s built a reputation as one of baseball’s most respected managers, earning three Manager of the Year awards. He is one of just six managers to win the honor in both leagues.

“Bob Melvin is an accomplished manager and a fantastic ambassador for the game of baseball,” said Shaun Clancy, founder of the Irish American Baseball Hall of Fame. “When we learned of his strong Irish roots, he was a logical choice for induction.”
