Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs created quite a bit of drama toward the end of his time in Buffalo, and now he’s bringing similar headlines to a division rival.

After finishing his stint with the Houston Texans, Diggs signed with the New England Patriots, aiming to be a reliable option for rising quarterback Drake Maye. However, instead of making noise on the field, Diggs has drawn attention off it—most recently by skipping the first day of voluntary OTAs on Wednesday following the release of a controversial video online.

Stefon Diggs Makes Headlines Off the Field

Although Stefon Diggs wasn’t on the field with his teammates on May 28, he still managed to grab headlines. As reported by ESPN’s Mike Reiss, a video surfaced on social media showing Diggs on a boat with three women, at one point flashing an unidentified pink substance.

Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel addressed the media and was asked six separate questions about Diggs. Vrabel confirmed the team had seen the video and was in contact with the wide receiver but declined to offer further details.

“It’s something we’re aware of, and obviously we want to make great decisions on and off the field,” Vrabel said. “Any conversations that I’ve had with Stefon will remain between him and I and the club.”

At this time, it remains unclear whether Diggs will face any disciplinary action from the Patriots or the NFL, and there has been no confirmation regarding the nature of the pink substance shown in the video.

Diggs’ exit from Buffalo was also marked by controversy, starting with a heated sideline exchange with quarterback Josh Allen during a playoff loss to the Bengals. That was followed by cryptic social media activity and a confrontation with the coaching staff during the first day of mandatory minicamp, which led to head coach Sean McDermott sending him home.

Although Diggs kept a lower profile during the following season, his performance declined in the second half, and the Bills traded him in March 2024 as part of a broader effort to manage their salary cap.

Diggs Working Back From Injury

Stefon Diggs is working his way back from a disappointing season that was cut short by a torn ACL. However, there were encouraging signs at the Patriots’ first round of OTAs, where Diggs was present and showed visible progress in his recovery, according to CBS Sports’ Shanna McCarriston.

“The four-time Pro Bowler is still recovering from tearing his ACL in his right knee nearly seven months ago and has given positive updates on his progress,” McCarriston reported. “The Patriots shared photos from this week’s OTA sessions, which featured Diggs participating in the drills—a good sign for Patriots fans.”

Still, McCarriston emphasized that Diggs isn’t in the clear just yet.

“There is still no guarantee Stefon will be ready for the Patriots’ Week 1 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders, but having him in the locker room alone will make a big difference to a more inexperienced offense,” she added.
