The Cincinnati Reds made a roster move this afternoon, adding right-handed reliever Joe La Sorsa to their 40-man roster before optioning him to Triple-A Louisville.
La Sorsa has been part of the Reds organization all season and has spent the entire 2025 campaign in Louisville. The decision to place him on the 40-man roster likely stems from an opt-out clause in his contract that he could have exercised if he wasn’t added. Rather than risk losing him to free agency, the Reds used an available 40-man spot to retain him.
The 27-year-old has prior MLB experience, pitching in both 2023 and 2024 with the Tampa Bay Rays and Washington Nationals. This season with Louisville, he’s appeared in 21 games, logging a 3.92 ERA over 20.2 innings. He’s held opponents to just 13 hits and allowed only one home run—positive signs.

However, control has been an issue. La Sorsa has issued 14 walks, resulting in a 16% walk rate, and has recorded only 14 strikeouts. That’s uncharacteristic compared to his previous seasons. In 2024, he tallied just 16 walks over 73.2 innings between Triple-A and MLB. In 2023, he had 22 walks across 69.1 innings between the majors and minors.
With this move, Cincinnati now has five relievers on the 40-man roster currently stationed in Louisville: Joe La Sorsa, Luis Mey, Sam Moll, Connor Phillips, and Yosver Zulueta—providing bullpen depth should the Reds need reinforcements.
