Like the rest of the NFL, the Buffalo Bills are currently in the minicamp phase of the preseason—a time for players to get ready for the new season and develop chemistry with teammates, especially new additions. Unfortunately, rookie cornerback Maxwell Hairston suffered a possible injury during Wednesday’s session.
While details remain unclear, reports from Alex Brasky of Bills Digest indicate that the 21-year-old appeared to be dealing with discomfort in his left knee. Hairston exited the field alongside members of the medical staff so they could further evaluate the issue.

The situation is still developing, but there is a positive sign: Hairston was able to walk off the field on his own. The Bills are expected to continue monitoring his condition and should provide further updates in the near future.
Selected 30th overall in the 2025 NFL Draft, Hairston is projected to step into a starting role and contribute immediately in Buffalo’s secondary. He brings significant college experience, having started all three seasons at Kentucky.

Although he slipped in the draft due to a shoulder injury that sidelined him for five games last season, his talent is undeniable. Hairston wrapped up his college career with 89 tackles (71 solo), three tackles for loss, one sack, six interceptions, three forced fumbles, and three defensive touchdowns. Notably, five of his six interceptions came during the 2023–24 season—his most impactful collegiate campaign.
The hope is that this knee issue isn’t serious, and that Hairston will return to the field soon.
