The Los Angeles Rams signed veteran offensive tackle D.J. Humphries on Thursday in response to concerning news about left tackle Alaric Jackson, who is once again dealing with blood clots. This is the second time Jackson has faced the issue, and while NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that there’s hope he’ll return in 2025, his availability remains uncertain.
Jackson first dealt with blood clots in 2022, playing in just eight games and starting six before being sidelined for the rest of the season.
Initially, Humphries’ addition looked like a depth move. However, the signing took on greater significance after reports surfaced Friday confirming that Jackson’s blood clot issues have returned. Jackson had signed a three-year, \$57 million contract with the Rams earlier this offseason.
A former first-round pick by the Arizona Cardinals in 2016, Humphries spent most of his career in Arizona before briefly appearing in two games for the Kansas City Chiefs last season.
Despite a seemingly solid starting offensive line, the Rams face real injury concerns with both Rob Havenstein and Jackson. Protecting veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford is critical as he enters the twilight of his career, and losing a starting tackle could seriously hamper the team’s hopes of contending for another Super Bowl.
