The Memphis Grizzlies selected Ja Morant with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. Since entering the league, Morant has averaged 22.6 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 7.4 assists per game. In 2022, he signed a five-year, $197 million contract extension with the team.
Despite Morant’s strong individual performances, Memphis has only won one playoff series since drafting him. His off-court issues have also made headlines—he’s been suspended twice by the NBA for displaying a gun on Instagram Live.

A two-time All-Star, Morant played in 50 games this past season, posting averages of 23.2 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 7.3 assists, while shooting 45.4% from the field, 30.9% from three, and 82.4% from the free-throw line. The Grizzlies were swept by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the first round of the playoffs. Morant missed Game 4 due to an injury suffered in Game 3.
On Thursday, Damichael Cole of The Memphis Commercial Appeal reported that Morant has parted ways with Lift Sports Management, the agency led by former NBA player Mike Miller, which he joined in April 2024.

Cole noted that Morant still maintains a strong relationship with the Grizzlies and may explore signing with a new agency or even representing himself going forward.
Morant is set to earn $39.4 million next season, with his salary increasing to $42.2 million in 2026-27 and $44.8 million in 2027-28, the final year of his current deal. He is eligible for a two-year contract extension this offseason, though it remains unclear whether Memphis plans to offer him another major deal.
