His quirky personality and long-standing presence in baseball made him a respected ambassador for the sport. Exit, Wash: The Beloved Texas Manager Steps Aside

Ron Washington, the former Texas Rangers manager and current skipper of the division-rival Los Angeles Angels, has officially been ruled out for the remainder of the 2025 season due to an undisclosed health issue. After spending much of the year away from the dugout, the Angels confirmed on Friday that Washington won’t return this season but offered no specifics about his condition.

“He’s in good spirits,” said Angels general manager Perry Minasian during a press conference following the team’s 15-9 loss to the Nationals. “He knows what he needs to do. I won’t go into details—that’s for him to share if he chooses. I’m just happy he’s focused on taking care of himself.”

Washington remains a beloved figure in Rangers history, known for his passion for the game, candidness with the media, and unique personality. He managed Texas from 2007 to 2014, leading the team to consecutive World Series appearances in 2010 and 2011. After a few more competitive seasons, the team declined sharply in 2014, and Washington resigned. Following years as a coach elsewhere, he returned to managing with the Angels in 2024, finishing that season with a 63-99 record. Given his recent absence and health concerns, some are beginning to wonder if this may mark the end of his long and storied baseball career.
