Should the Detroit Tigers consider bringing back a former player? A trade with the Arizona Diamondbacks could make that possible.
At the season’s midpoint, the Tigers have established themselves as the top team in the American League.
Being the first team in baseball to reach 50 wins, Detroit has proven that their strong finish last season wasn’t a fluke. They’ve been dominant since the start and are now focused on making a deep playoff run in October.

While the roster is well-rounded, there are still areas where improvements could be made. On the pitching side, adding a veteran starter to the rotation would be wise, especially after losing top prospect Jackson Jobe for the year. Additionally, bolstering the bullpen with another reliable arm for high-pressure situations would always be beneficial.

However, the Tigers’ biggest need might be strengthening the left side of their infield. Although the offense has improved from last year, adding another quality hitter at either shortstop or third base could boost the lineup significantly.
ESPN’s Jeff Passan recently highlighted the possibility of Detroit re-acquiring third baseman Eugenio Suarez.
“Suarez’s power would be an ideal fit in the Tigers’ lineup and is strong enough to clear the fences at Comerica Park, one of MLB’s largest stadiums,” Passan noted.
Suarez originally signed with Detroit as an amateur in 2008 and made his debut in 2014. His time with the Tigers was brief, as he was traded to Cincinnati the following offseason.

Since then, Suarez has developed into one of the game’s premier power hitters and could be a valuable addition for Detroit.
Going into the season, the Tigers needed a right-handed bat and help on the left side of the infield. While Spencer Torkelson has provided power from that side, more support would certainly be welcome.
With World Series expectations high, making a significant move or two before the trade deadline makes a lot of sense for Detroit.
The Arizona Diamondbacks are a team to watch in the coming days. Battling injuries and a tough National League West, they could become sellers this summer.
