Veteran MLB outfielder Kevin Pillar officially announced his retirement on Wednesday after a 13-year career.

Speaking on Foul Territory, Pillar explained the thought process behind his decision.
“I guess I can officially say I’m done playing,” he said. “I wanted to be absolutely certain. After everything I went through last year, I initially thought it would be my final season. But during the offseason, my mindset shifted.”

Pillar admitted he began to miss the game and didn’t feel at peace with how the previous season had ended. Following thumb surgery and a lengthy rehab process, he felt compelled to give it one more shot.
“I didn’t want to walk away with regrets.

I’m grateful I gave it another try, went to spring training, and had the chance to play with the Rangers. Being designated for assignment was tough, but once I was back home, spending time as a dad, I realized how fulfilling that role is. Now, I wake up excited to see what the day brings with my family.”

Over the course of his career, Pillar suited up for 10 MLB teams, including a seven-year stint with the Toronto Blue Jays. He also played for the Giants, Mets, Angels, Braves, Red Sox, Rockies, White Sox, Dodgers, and Rangers.

He ends his career with a .255 batting average, 114 home runs, 469 RBIs, and a .293 on-base percentage.
