Paige Bueckers has been named the WNBA Rookie of the Month for June after averaging 21.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 5.0 assists. Despite missing part of the month due to injury, she helped lead the Dallas Wings to a 3-4 record in games she played. The Wings currently sit at 5-13 overall.
The announcement was made by head coach Chris Koclanes during Thursday’s practice. Bueckers appeared slightly embarrassed as the honor was revealed in front of her teammates but offered a gracious response: “Thank you guys. It’s all because of you. That’s the only way it’s possible.”
In May, Washington Mystics forward Kiki Iriafen earned the same honor with averages of 13.9 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 1.0 assist. Bueckers also impressed that month, posting 14.7 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 6.7 assists per game.
Her strong rookie campaign also earned her a spot as a WNBA All-Star starter.
