The Seattle Mariners made franchise history after Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Entering the series finale, Seattle had already recorded back-to-back shutouts—winning the opener 6-0 and Game 2 by a narrow 1-0 margin. With the series already secured, the Mariners aimed for a dominant sweep. They delivered, notching another 1-0 win to close out the series and etch their names into the record books with a third consecutive shutout.

How Mariners played against Pirates

It was an impressive achievement for the Mariners, whose bullpen dominated throughout the series against the Pirates.

The finale was a tense, tightly contested game. Pittsburgh was determined to avoid a sweep, while Seattle looked to keep their momentum rolling. The first five innings remained scoreless as both pitching staffs refused to give an inch, making every pitch count.

Momentum hinged on who would strike first, and that team was Seattle. In the bottom of the sixth, left fielder Randy Arozarena broke the deadlock with a solo home run to left field—the only run of the game.

Pittsburgh’s pitchers kept the damage to a minimum, but the Mariners had already secured what they needed. Starter George Kirby earned the win, delivering 6.1 strong innings with nine strikeouts and allowing just four hits.

The victory moved Seattle to a 48-42 record, keeping them in second place in the AL West, seven games behind the division-leading Houston Astros.
