Detroit’s All-Star experience at this year’s showcase was anything but memorable.
The Tigers entered the 2025 break with the best record in baseball and led all teams with six All-Star selections—a fitting reward for a dominant first half. But what should’ve been a celebration of their success quickly unraveled and turned into a night to forget.
Gleyber Torres and Riley Greene were slotted near the top of the American League lineup, with Javier Báez batting in the lower third. Reigning Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal took the mound to start the game. Casey Mize and Zach McKinstry were late additions as reserves.

Unfortunately, none of Detroit’s All-Stars delivered. The group struggled across the board, turning what should have been a proud moment into a disappointing showing. McKinstry, who barely saw the field, ironically came away looking the best—highlighting just how rough the night was for the Tigers’ All-Star contingent.
No one had a worse 2025 MLB All-Star Game showing than the Tigers

Tigers fans were likely eager to watch the All-Star Game unfold in Atlanta, but their excitement was quickly crushed. Gleyber Torres and Riley Greene each struck out swinging in the top of the first inning, setting a discouraging tone before Tarik Skubal even took the mound.

Skubal, typically one of MLB’s most dominant arms, looked unrecognizable in his start. He allowed three hits on just 19 pitches, including a two-run double by Arizona’s Ketel Marte. Despite striking out two batters—one of which was only confirmed after a successful challenge—Skubal finished with a jarring 18.00 ERA. It was a rare off night for the reigning Cy Young winner.
Offensively, the Tigers’ trio of Torres, Greene, and Báez, along with reserve Zach McKinstry, combined to go 0-for-8 with three strikeouts. None of them found any rhythm before being replaced. While the American League lineup as a whole underperformed, Detroit’s showing stood out in all the wrong ways.

To pile on, Casey Mize couldn’t even complete his relief outing. Entering in the bottom of the sixth, he faced just three batters and gave up a solo homer to Corbin Carroll before being pulled for Kansas City’s Kris Bubic.
Adding insult to injury, no team with the most All-Star selections has won the World Series since the Braves did it in 2021 (per NBC Sports’ Mike Gavin). For Tigers fans, it was a harsh reality check—a rough All-Star performance paired with ominous history suggesting a potentially disappointing October.
