Cardinals Troll Critics With Coldplay Post — You Won’t Believe What They Put on the Jumbotron

A bizarre and now-viral moment from a Coldplay concert on Wednesday has taken the internet by storm. Andy Byron, once a little-known tech CEO, was thrust into the spotlight — and mockery — after he and his HR chief, Kristin Cabot, were shown embracing on the venue’s jumbotron, fueling rumors of an affair. The moment quickly spiraled when Coldplay’s Chris Martin noticed the couple on the screen and quipped, “Uh-oh, what? Either they’re having an affair or they’re very shy.”

The pair’s startled reaction only fueled the speculation. Byron abruptly ducked out of view and never came back, while Cabot shielded her face and turned away in embarrassment. The awkward footage spread like wildfire, turning what should have been a sweet moment into a public spectacle.

Even the St. Louis Cardinals jumped into the online frenzy. Taking advantage of the MLB All-Star break, the team posted a meme on X (formerly Twitter), showing Albert Pujols hugging Adam Wainwright in the dugout with the caption: “When Coldplay starts playing your song.” The image humorously echoed the Byron-Cabot moment but replaced the awkwardness with a wholesome dose of nostalgia for Cardinals fans.

Cardinals aim for second-half playoff push

Despite a rocky and inconsistent first half, the Cardinals head into the All-Star break with a 51-46 record. They’re sitting 6.5 games behind the division-leading Cubs in the NL Central but remain firmly in the playoff picture, just 1.5 games out of a Wild Card spot.

Following a better-than-expected start to the season, St. Louis appears poised to be buyers at the upcoming trade deadline. President of Baseball Operations John Mozeliak has indicated the team is actively looking to add a right-handed hitter but is reluctant to part with any of the club’s top bullpen arms in a potential deal.

Brendan Donovan was the Cardinals’ lone All-Star this year, earning his first selection as a reserve infielder behind starter Ketel Marte. The versatile Gold Glover delivered a strong first half, batting .297 with a .367 on-base percentage and .430 slugging, while adding eight homers, 36 RBIs, 51 runs scored, a 124 OPS+, and 2.9 bWAR across 89 games.
