It’s obvious that the St. Louis Cardinals have been dreadfully mediocre in 2025, especially after Tuesday night’s 8-3 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates. After that loss, they had a 65-68 season record, and it has been extremely difficult to watch them slowly deteriorate into mediocrity. Cardinals supporters have responded by attending games at historically low levels.
Right now, the Cardinals’ only hope is to finish the season well so they can have a stronger 2026 campaign. They are not going to give up just because they are not in a position to contend for a postseason berth.
After starting pitcher Andre Pallante gave up seven runs on eight hits and one walk in five innings of work, Cardinals manager Oli Marmol is contemplating what some fans would consider a long-overdue rotation move.
According to Jeff Jones of BND, Marmol stated, “We have to look and figure out what’s best for him, but also take into consideration all the other variables of what we have below and what that would look like.” “It’s not simply… There are undoubtedly more moving components involved. Tomorrow, we’ll get together, go over everything, and decide what to do next.
Although Pallante has had some gems in the past, the 26-year-old Cardinals starter has seldom put up strong pitching outings. He has given up 22 earned runs in his last four outings, and on three different occasions, he has given up seven earned runs or more.
Suffice to say, Pallante hasn’t been doing enough to earn his keep in the Cardinals rotation. And for Marmol, some tough decisions will have to be made.
Cardinals fans believe a demotion is due for Andre Pallante
Pallante earned a full-time rotation place with the Cardinals in 2025 after recording an ERA of 3.78 in 121.1 innings in 2024. However, Pallante’s 2025 hasn’t gone as planned. Cardinals supporters have started turning against the 26-year-old as a consequence, with some even applauding the prospect of Marmol demoting him to the bullpen.

“This group is awful! Once more, pitching is the league’s laughing stock. Since the Cardinals as a team like holding onto three of the five worst pitchers in the league each season, how about we just give Pallante his extension today, as every Cardinals fan expects?” @MeintsJavan said.
