With less than a month remaining in the 2025 MLB season, the Detroit Tigers are virtually certain to qualify for the postseason thanks to their current 80-60 record, which is among the best in the league and only trails the Toronto Blue Jays for the best American League record.
Although pitchers like Garrett Crochet and Max Fried have been as good from the bump this season, Ace Tarik Skubal has done a fantastic job of replicating his Cy Young Award campaign from the previous year. However, the Triple Crown is in danger of being duplicated this year.
It is possible, though, that the Tigers will be letting go of a crucial player in free agency who started in the All-Star Game only a few months ago.

Gleyber Torres Expected To Sign Elsewhere in Free Agency
After spending seven seasons in the Bronx with the New York Yankees, with whom he was named to two All-Star teams, infielder Gleyber Torres signed a one-year, $15 million contract with the Motor City Kitties in December 2024, just before the year ended.
In contrast to the.812 OPS he sported before the break, Torres has suffered since the 2025 Midsummer Classic, batting just.231 with a.675 OPS. According to Bleacher Report’s Tim Kelly, Torres and the organization may be splitting after the 2025 season.
“Between Javier Báez, Colt Keith, Zach McKinstry and Matt Vierling, the Tigers will have alternatives at second base that allow them to reinvest Torres’ $15 million elsewhere next season,” writes Kelly.
Along with his declining OPS, Torres has hit 14 home runs and knocked in 63 runs with a season batting average of.263. His skill is still there, albeit maybe not at the pace that Detroit supporters were accustomed to at the start of the season.
