Recent serious injuries to the Boston Red Sox have harmed their hopes of making the playoffs. But there’s a chance that someone significant may return shortly.

Gold Glove outfielder Wilyer Abreu will attempt running at Fenway again, according to Sox manager Alex Cora yesterday. The last time he tried running was during the Sox’s game against the Baltimore Orioles.
Manager Alex Cora stated, “We’ll know tomorrow night because he’s supposed to run tomorrow.” According to MassLive, Cora stated, “He’s going to run for the first time since Baltimore.”

Abreu has been out since August 21st due to a hamstring injury. On both sides of the ball, he makes a significant contribution to the Sox. He is slashing and one of baseball’s top defensive right fielders. .811 with 22 home runs and 253/.325/.486.

Regaining Abreu would be essential to the Sox’s success since they are missing Roman Anthony, who has emerged as the center of their offensive. The Sox outfield, which has been a problem for them lately, returns to being perhaps the best in MLB with him. They also get another slugger to help drive in runs.

Abreu may return for the home series against the New York Yankees since he won’t be undergoing a rehabilitation period. They must defeat their opponents to ensure they remain in the Wild Card race, so hopefully he does.
