After cementing his place in franchise history by breaking the New York Mets’ all-time home run record, slugger Pete Alonso took a moment to reflect on his future with the club.
“I love the city of New York, I love the fanbase. It’s been an absolute pleasure playing here,” Alonso said, via SNY. “The business side is the business side. If the team chooses to go in a different direction, that’s part of it. But for me, this has been a treat. This group is really special—not just because of the talent, but because of the people.”

Alonso went on to praise every part of the organization, from teammates and coaches to the front office, clubhouse staff, and trainers. “We’ve got an incredible group with a clear purpose, and it’s been great to be a part of it. I really hope it doesn’t end,” he added.
The timing of Alonso’s comments isn’t coincidental. The 30-year-old holds a player option after the 2025 season that he’s widely expected to exercise, setting him up to enter unrestricted free agency for a second straight winter.

Pete Alonso Speaks About His Mets Future
Pete Alonso joined Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman on the September 10 episode of The Show: A NY Post Baseball Podcast, where he was asked directly about his future and whether he wants to remain with the Mets.

“I’ve grown up in this organization, and it’s been really special,” Alonso said. “The fans have always shown incredible support, but just as important are the people I get to work with every day—the coaches, clubhouse staff, teammates. I’ve been blessed to be around unbelievable people, and that means a lot to me.”

Still, Alonso was careful to temper expectations. “We’ll see what happens. I love it here, it’s great, but you can’t predict anything. Right now, I’m focused on finishing this season strong. Honestly, I hadn’t even really thought much about free agency until you just asked.”
While Alonso admitted “it would be great to stay,” he also acknowledged the uncertainty. “Whatever happens, happens. I don’t have a crystal ball—I wish I did—but we’ll see,” he said.

For Mets fans, that crystal ball would come in handy not only to know Alonso’s long-term fate, but also to see if this year’s team can punch its ticket to October.
