Over the past several months, the St. Louis Cardinals have had to make some difficult choices, and they may have to make even more difficult ones in the months to come.

After a year as a trade chip for St. Louis, it appears like the front management will attempt to acquire him once more over the summer.

According to a recent prediction by Josh Jacobs of FanSided, Arenado will be playing his final home games with the Cardinals in the coming days. The St. Louis fans should give the veteran infielder a standing ovation if this is indeed it for him.

Is Nolan Arenado playing his final home games in St. Louis?

Arenado has had a difficult campaign and has cut. 10 home runs in 406 plate appearances with a 234/.291/.363 line is a significant departure from Arenado’s offensive prowess. It’s difficult to see how Arenado will be a valued asset going ahead given his sharp drop from previous seasons to his current 81 wRC+,” Jacobs said. “If he finishes well, these season-ending games might help increase his worth, but only in the sense that if the Cardinals spend a lot of money on the contract, other teams might be interested in acquiring Arenado.

“Arenado has already spoken out about the possibility that he may be dealt this summer, which would put an end to a very complex chapter in Cardinals baseball history. Although Arenado is a potential Hall of Famer and one of the greatest players of all time, the Cardinals haven’t won a single postseason game while he was in St. Louis, and his seasons have often been lackluster.

The experienced infielder is no longer useful to the Cardinals. In addition to being costly, he is preventing younger players from getting regular playing time.

Although cutting him has never appeared like a realistic option, the Cardinals are more likely to do so as his contract draws to a close.

The Cardinals might be able to find a trade partner this winter, but it doesn’t seem probable considering how badly he’s played at the bat. In any case, the veteran infielder’s remaining home games in St. Louis are probably the last ones.
