Nolan Arenado was in the starting lineup for what may have been his last game with the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium on Sunday, even though he needed the day off. The six-time Platinum Glove Award winner had the opportunity to be acknowledged by the audience for his efforts over the previous five years when manager Oli Marmol withdrew Arenado in favor of Nolan Gorman prior to the opening pitch.

Arenado thought back on his time in St. Louis after the game.

“The fans here have always been fantastic; they want competitive baseball, a good team, and a winner,” Arenado remarked. “I think we could have done it a bit better over the past several years, but I want that for them. Neither team ever achieved the success they had hoped for when the celebrity arrived. With two outstanding seasons, including a third-place MVP performance in 2022, Arenado got off to a terrific start in St. Louis. His output has since decreased, and the Cardinals have not made it past the Wild Card stage in 2021 or 2022.

In 2022, when Arenado placed third and Paul Goldschmidt won MVP, they had their finest opportunity.

Arenado will probably be traded in the offseason as the Cardinals are anticipated to adopt a youth movement. He departs St. Louis as an all-time great, having won the Platinum Glove six times, the Gold Glove ten times, and the Silver Slugger five times.
