BREAKING: Coach Sean Payton confirms Shocking Announcement On Broncos receiver Josh Reynolds after being shot last week
Denver head coach Sean Payton stated that Broncos wide receiver Josh Reynolds is “doing OK” but was “pretty shaken up” after being shot last week.
“He’s fortunate,” Payton remarked, adding that both the league and local authorities are managing the situation. “I spoke with him, and he was clearly rattled. I’ll leave it at that.”
Reynolds attended practice throughout the week, working on a side field as he recovers from a broken finger he injured during a game against Las Vegas earlier this month. The injury required surgery, placing him on injured reserve, which is why he didn’t travel with the Broncos to New Orleans for their October 17 game.
The incident occurred in the early hours of October 18, while Reynolds and another individual were driving away from a strip club. This was shortly after his teammates had returned from their 33-10 victory over the Saints.
“I’m just glad he’s OK,” said cornerback Pat Surtain II on Friday after clearing concussion protocol. “We wish him the best in his recovery. Situations like this…him being able to come through it is a blessing for him and for our organization. Everyone here is grateful he’s all right.”
Left tackle Garett Bolles, who has a locker next to Reynolds, said the team was deeply affected by the incident and is rallying around Reynolds.
“We could have lost a brother. That’s really what it comes down to,” Bolles commented. “There’s no room for such violence in today’s world…attempting to take another’s life is just unacceptable.”
Denver police reported the arrest of two men, Luis Mendoza, 35, and Burr Charlesworth, 42, in connection with the shooting that took place around 3 a.m. on a section of Interstate 25 south of downtown. Both men face charges of attempted first-degree murder and first-degree assault. Authorities are also working to identify additional suspects, and the arrest reports remain sealed to protect the investigation’s integrity.
According to NBC affiliate KUSA-TV in Denver, Reynolds suffered gunshot wounds to his left arm and the back of his head.
Now in his ninth NFL season and his first in Denver after signing a two-year, $9 million contract, Reynolds has appeared in five games with one start, recording 12 catches for 183 yards and a touchdown. He spent the previous three seasons with Detroit and has also played for the Titans and Rams, who drafted him in the fourth round in 2017 out of Texas A&M.
