BREAKING: Bills and Raiders trade proposal sends $7 million defender to Buffalo
With the Las Vegas Raiders sitting at 2-6 and at the bottom of the AFC West, general manager Tom Telesco may look to offload assets at the trade deadline to secure draft capital for a retooling or rebuild in 2025. One potential trade piece is linebacker, who is in the final season of his two-year, $7 million contract. Recently, *Sporting News*’ Vinnie Iyer suggested that the Buffalo Bills might be interested in Spillane to address their linebacker needs.
“The Bills should stay aggressive and try to fill their big hole on the second level with this other key defensive star in Las Vegas,” Iyer noted.
Spillane, who previously played four seasons in a rotational role with the Pittsburgh Steelers, joined the Raiders as a full-time starter and has proven both durable—playing 97% of snaps in 2023 and 100% in 2024—and a defensive leader. The Bills, currently 6-2 and leading the AFC East, are in need of linebacker support with Matt Milano out indefinitely due to a torn biceps and limited depth in the position. Spillane would bring an immediate boost, particularly in run defense, where he excels, though his coverage skills lag, as seen in his 47.0 PFF grade.
Given Spillane’s pending free agency, the cost to acquire him should be low. A Day 3 draft pick, likely a sixth- or seventh-rounder, could be enough, and the Bills have both picks available for 2025 if Spillane becomes available and they decide to pursue him.
