As the NFL trade deadline approaches on Tuesday, November 5th, at 4 p.m., fans should anticipate a few more moves as teams gear up for a playoff push. In the past month, significant trades have sent Davante Adams to the New York Jets, Amari Cooper to the Buffalo Bills, and DeAndre Hopkins to the Kansas City Chiefs. Just recently, the Baltimore Ravens made a splash, acquiring Diontae Johnson from the Carolina Panthers to bolster their roster.

Buffalo Bills GM Brandon Beane is known for his active approach to the trade market, often looking for moves that can elevate the team. However, he’s also willing to trade away players in exchange for draft assets if it benefits the team’s future. One of Beane’s offseason moves was signing safety Mike Edwards, previously with the Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, to help fill the void left by Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer. Although Edwards was expected to bring stability to the Bills’ secondary, he has instead been a healthy scratch, with Taylor Rapp, Damar Hamlin, and Cole Bishop taking on primary roles.

Given Edwards’ lack of playing time, he has become a potential trade candidate. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, he is available and reportedly “would like to go somewhere he can play” (subscription required).

Brandon Beane needs to make a move to send Mike Edwards out of Buffalo

Trading a player like Mike Edwards, who hasn’t been contributing or even dressing for games, is a logical move, especially given his lack of involvement this season. While keeping Edwards on the roster could make sense from a depth perspective, the reality is that he’s on a one-year contract and isn’t expected to see much action. Therefore, GM Brandon Beane would be wise to start exploring trade options, aiming to secure at least some late-round draft capital. This would benefit both the Bills and Edwards, who could find playing time elsewhere.
