BREAKING: Miami Confirms More Bad News About LB career
Miami linebacker Jaylin Alderman delivered a standout performance in the Hurricanes’ 28-23 loss at Georgia Tech, recording a career-high nine tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss. Alderman, who transferred from Louisville during the 2024 offseason, played a season-high 41 snaps in the game and was a key contributor defensively.
According to David Lake of *Inside the U*, Alderman was the second-highest-graded Miami player by Pro Football Focus (PFF), earning an overall grade of 78.8 and an 80.7 run defense grade—the highest on the team against Georgia Tech. Only true freshman cornerback O.J. Frederique, with an 80.5 PFF grade, ranked higher.
Francis Mauigoa led Miami with 11 tackles, but Alderman’s performance stood out as he has stepped up in Raul Aguirre’s absence due to injury. For the season, Alderman has recorded 18 tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss. His breakout 2023 season at Louisville included 62 tackles, 7.0 TFLs, 1.5 sacks, and two passes defended. Alderman’s move to Miami reunited him with linebackers coach Derek Nicholson, who originally recruited him to Louisville.
With Miami finishing the regular season against Wake Forest on November 23 and Syracuse on November 30—both teams ranking in the ACC’s bottom six in rushing offenses—Alderman is expected to play a larger role. His experience and production will be critical for a defense that has struggled at times, particularly against the run.
The Hurricanes rank 10th in the ACC in rushing defense, allowing 144.83 yards per game against conference opponents. Georgia Tech exposed Miami’s run defense with a season-high 271 rushing yards and 5.65 yards per carry. Virginia Tech is the only other opponent to surpass 200 rushing yards against Miami this season.
If Miami aims to make a deep postseason run, tightening up defensively will be essential, and Alderman’s proven ability will be a valuable asset in the final stretch of the season.
