Bills fans hang Kermit the Frog in Patrick Mahomes jersey before Chiefs game
One of the fiercest rivalries in the NFL saw Buffalo Bills fans stir up some controversy before Sunday afternoon’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Prior to kickoff at Highmark Stadium in Buffalo, a few passionate Bills fans, known collectively as the “Bills Mafia,” displayed their disdain for Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes by hanging a Kermit the Frog doll—dressed in a Mahomes jersey and sporting a black wig—from a pole near the stadium.
Reactions quickly poured in, with some fans criticizing the stunt as over the line, while others downplayed it as harmless rivalry fun.
“Absolutely not. This is horrible. People are twisted. Take this down,” commented @mitxhsteven.
“And this is why Bills fans won’t ever win a Super Bowl,” remarked @HskrsStarsBucs.
“This happened every year when Brady came to town, lol,” noted @the_dadchef.
“Why is that unacceptable? It’s clearly about rivalry, not an actual threat…,” questioned @OttamusPrime.
“The only way the Bills ever beat the Chiefs in a meaningful game,” joked @IntranetComedy.
“Welcome to Buffalo, where the tailgates are as intense as the rivalry. Ever been to one?” added @LoneWolfMethod.
The Bills held an 18-16 lead at halftime, aiming to improve to a 9-2 record and potentially hand the undefeated Chiefs their first loss of the season.
Patrick Mahomes has already clapped back at Kermit the Frog comparisons
Earlier this year, the three-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback Patrick Mahomes had a response ready when the Las Vegas Raiders poked fun at him by featuring a Kermit the Frog doll at their Training Camp.
Mahomes, often likened to the famous Muppet due to their similar voices, commented on the playful jab, saying, “Stuff like that happens. It will get handled when it gets handled.”
Given that Mahomes has led the Chiefs to three championships since the Bills’ last Super Bowl appearance, it’s fair to say he’s the one having the last laugh.
