The team secured Castillo on a one-year deal, ensuring continuity in their roster. Despite becoming a CFL free agent on Feb. 13, the team’s general manager, Kyle Walters, expressed their ongoing interest in retaining Castillo.

This upcoming season marks Castillo’s fourth stint with Winnipeg, spanning three separate periods. He first joined the team in 2015, returned in late 2021 to contribute to the Bombers’ consecutive Grey Cup victories, and remained with the team throughout last season.

Castillo’s remarkable performance in 2023 saw him set a franchise record with a 90.2% success rate, making 46 out of 51 field goal attempts. Notably, he maintained a perfect record of 31-for-31 within the 40-yard line, while also displaying proficiency from longer distances, going 15-for-20 on attempts beyond the 40-yard mark and converting four out of six from beyond 50 yards, with his longest successful kick being from 53 yards away.

With a career average of 86.7% across 77 games, Castillo has showcased his kicking prowess across various CFL teams, including the Bombers, Ottawa Redblacks, Hamilton Tiger-Cats, B.C. Lions, and Edmonton Elks.
