The Los Angeles Dodgers made a pivotal, potentially season-saving trade deadline move by acquiring starting pitcher Jack Flaherty from the Detroit Tigers. Ironically, the competition for Flaherty came down to the Dodgers and the New York Yankees—two teams that would later face off in the World Series.

Flaherty became the anchor of the Dodgers’ rotation during a critical stretch, stepping up as Shohei Ohtani, Tyler Glasnow, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and several young pitchers dealt with injuries.

Now a free agent, Flaherty is free to sign wherever he chooses.

Bleacher Report’s Zachary Rymer predicts Flaherty will remain in Los Angeles—but not with the Dodgers. Instead, Rymer expects him to ink a four-year, $88 million contract with the Los Angeles Angels this offseason.

“There haven’t been many substantial rumors about Flaherty, but ESPN’s Jeff Passan floated New York and Washington as potential fits,” Rymer noted. “Flaherty himself has expressed a desire to stay in Los Angeles if possible. If that includes the broader LA area, the Angels make as much sense as the Dodgers—and arguably need him more.”

The Angels are desperate for starting rotation help. While many anticipated a full-scale rebuild in Anaheim, the front office appears intent on bolstering the roster instead.

With other teams prioritizing marquee names like Juan Soto and Corbin Burnes, the Angels could quietly swoop in and secure Flaherty as a key piece of their pitching staff.
