The 31-year-old spent last season with the Colorado Rockies after competing for a bench spot with the Phillies during spring training. Cave lost out to Cristian Pache and was traded to the Rockies for cash considerations. Later in the season, Pache was part of the Orioles-Phillies trade involving Austin Hays and Seranthony Domínguez, only to be DFA’d and picked up by the Marlins. Pache is now a free agent.

Cave excelled at the plate with Triple-A Lehigh Valley in 2023, posting an impressive .346/.429/.684 slash line with 16 home runs and 49 RBIs over 275 plate appearances. However, he struggled to replicate that success in the majors, hitting just .212/.272/.348 after being called up in late July. His season ended with a tough moment, making the final out in Game 7 of the NLCS.
