Philadelphia Eagles fullback/linebacker Ben VanSumeren has sustained a season-ending knee injury during Friday’s practice, as reported by Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer. This is a significant setback for VanSumeren, who joined the team last year as an undrafted rookie free agent. He had established himself as a key contributor on special teams, playing 213 snaps this season, and served as a lead blocker on offense, though he didn’t see any defensive action.

The injury leaves the Eagles with reduced depth at linebacker. Currently, starters Zach Baun and Nakobe Dean are supported by backups Oren Burks and Jeremiah Trotter Jr., with Dallas Gant available on the practice squad. The Eagles now face a decision regarding their fullback role: whether to replace VanSumeren or eliminate the position altogether.

If the Eagles plan to place VanSumeren on injured reserve before their game against the Baltimore Ravens, they must do so by 4:00 PM ET on Saturday. Otherwise, a roster move will likely occur next week. Wishing VanSumeren a quick and full recovery.
