BREAKING: Yankees’ Right fielder Signs Mega Deal With Crosstown Rival as agreement reaches 80% completion
The Juan Soto sweepstakes are dominating baseball headlines, and it’s no surprise given the magnitude of the potential deal. Many expect Soto to sign his massive contract during the December winter meetings, with the value likely ranging from $600 million to $700 million. The five main contenders for his services appear to be the Toronto Blue Jays, Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, New York Mets, and the Los Angeles Dodgers. ESPN’s David Schoenfield has predicted that Soto will sign a 13-year, $611 million contract with the Mets, leaving the Yankees after just one year in New York.
Schoenfield highlights the Mets’ potential to reload, noting that while they have several free agents, including Pete Alonso and key starting pitchers, their payroll is significantly lower than in 2024, leaving them with financial flexibility. With Steve Cohen’s deep pockets, money won’t be an issue, and it’s hard to imagine any team outbidding the Mets, especially the Yankees.
Outbidding Cohen will be an immense challenge. If Cohen is determined to land Soto, he might offer a $700 million deal, overwhelming the competition. Signing Soto would be a crucial move for the Mets, who are looking to rebound after losing to the Dodgers in the National League Championship Series. With the Dodgers strengthening their rotation by adding Blake Snell, securing Soto would be a strong counter-move by the Mets.
