The NCAA transfer portal continues to impact the Texas Longhorns, as defensive lineman Tiaoalii Savea has decided to transfer after just one season in Austin. Matt Zenitz of 247 Sports reported the news on Tuesday, making Savea the third Longhorns defensive lineman to enter the portal, joining Jaray Bledsoe and Aaron Bryant.

Tiaoalii Savea, Texas, Defensive Line

Savea began his collegiate career at UCLA in 2021 before transferring to Arizona, where he played two seasons and tallied 35 tackles and 1.5 sacks. After entering the transfer portal again, he committed to Texas following an official visit in January.

Despite his experience, Savea struggled to make an impact during his lone season with the Longhorns. He appeared in just four games, recording three tackles, with his final appearance coming in Texas’ 49-17 victory over Texas on November 9.

The Las Vegas native’s departure further depletes the Longhorns’ defensive line depth as they prepare for their move to the SEC. Texas will look to incoming recruits and returning players to fill the void left by Savea and other recent departures.
