This past season, the Detroit Tigers and the Cleveland Guardians were two of the American League’s most delightfully unexpected teams. The Tigers went on an incredible run to sneak into the postseason, while the Guards won the AL Central.

The Guardians defeated the Tigers in a thrilling best-of-five game once during the postseason. Although both companies have a bright future, it has become evident that they both require rotating talent in order to advance and compete for a spot in the top. The Cardinals of St. Louis come next.

The Cardinals could be moving a pair of pitchers this offseason

The Cards wanted to reduce salary once the offseason got underway. They are willing to sell Nolan Arenado, they even had an agreement with the Houston Astros prior to the player invoking his no-trade clause, and they made little efforts to reunite with free agent Paul Goldschmidt.
According to sources, the Cardinals are thinking about trading for starters Steven Matz and Erick Fedde in order to free up some salary space.

The Cardinals want to shed payroll

The Tigers and Guardians have both indicated interest in dealing for Cardinals starting pitchers Erick Fedde and Steven Matz, according to MLB.com’s John Denton, Mark Feinsand, and Bryan Hoch. This is the first rumor to associate either pitcher with particular suitors, despite the fact that both pitchers appeared to be possible trade candidates going into the winter, according to MLB Trade Rumors.

Both pitchers are reasonably priced. Fedde will earn $7.5 million in 2025, while Matz will earn $12.5 million.

This past season, despite having back problems, Matz recorded a 5.08 ERA in 44.1 innings pitched. Fedde, on the other hand, had a stellar season between the Chicago White Sox and the Cardinals, pitching 177.1 innings with a 3.30 ERA. Both pitchers, especially Fedde, have the ability to benefit the Tigers and the Guardians.
