Where will Marcus Bryant go after his tenure with SMU? The SMU football team enjoyed a successful season under Rhett Lashlee’s guidance, securing 11 wins and only three losses. This success was largely attributed to their formidable offensive line. However, the team’s core may undergo significant changes due to Marcus Bryant’s decision. Bryant, a key member of the offensive line, has opted to explore his options in the NCAA Transfer Portal, according to 247 Sports. His departure marks the second loss of an offensive lineman for SMU, following Branson Hickman and Hyrin White, who graduated. This exodus poses a challenge for Lashlee as he endeavors to replace three starters from the previous season and maintain the protection of the quarterback.

Bryant departs from the SMU football squad

Bryant’s adeptness in creating opportunities for SMU’s football team’s running game is remarkable. Standing tall at 6-foot-8 and weighing 318 pounds, he easily overpowers multiple defenders simultaneously, facilitating an advantageous environment for his fellow linemen to excel. His presence significantly bolsters the team’s rushing capabilities, making him a top-tier choice for a team that heavily emphasizes the running aspect of the game.

Furthermore, Bryant’s endurance and low center of gravity make it challenging for opposing players to sack the team’s playcaller, contributing to the team’s impressive record of only allowing 16 sacks, leading the AAC. These qualities are pivotal in maintaining a highly adaptable offensive line.

As Bryant approaches the end of his tenure with the SMU football team, with only one season of eligibility remaining, he may be driven to vie for a spot in the College Football Playoff National Championship in the upcoming season, enhancing his prospects for NFL selection. While his current resume is commendable, he undoubtedly aims to further distinguish himself.

Looking ahead, PJ Williams is poised to step into the role of the team’s left tackle for the SMU football squad. Having already showcased his abilities in four starting games, he is expected to continue improving following his sophomore year, ensuring a smooth transition for the team’s offensive line.
