Breaking News: Saskatchewan Roughriders Add Two Americans To Training Camp Roster
The Saskatchewan Roughriders have inked deals with American wide receiver Dazz Newsome and linebacker Diego Fagot (pronounced: Fuh-go).
Newsome, standing at 5-foot-10 and weighing 184 pounds, was selected as the 221st overall pick by the Chicago Bears in the 2021 draft. In his stint with Chicago, he played in three games, securing two receptions for 23 yards, and returning six punts for a total of 75 yards.
Prior to his time with the Bears, Newsome had brief spells with the Seattle Seahawks, Cincinnati Bengals, Kansas City Chiefs, and San Francisco 49ers. In his college career at North Carolina, spanning four seasons, he amassed impressive stats with 188 receptions, 2,435 yards, and 24 touchdowns.
Additionally, he contributed on special teams with 679 yards and a touchdown through 44 punts and seven kickoff returns. Newsome earned recognition as an All-ACC second-team member in 2019 and received an honorable mention in 2020.
Fagot went undrafted in 2022 but later joined the Baltimore Ravens. He also had stints with the New England Patriots and the Houston Roughnecks of the XFL, although he did not see action in any regular season games.
During his tenure at Navy over four years, the 26-year-old recorded notable statistics, including 282 defensive tackles (with 36 tackles for loss), ten sacks, five pass deflections, six forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and two interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown, across 42 games.
His exceptional performance led to him being named to the All-AAC first team in 2019 and the second team in 2020.
