Breaking: Mets Sign $25 Million Outfielder Even After Signing Juan Soto.
The New York Mets continue to bolster their roster this offseason. After securing Juan Soto and addressing parts of their rotation, the team acknowledges there’s still work to be done. With Soto solidifying right field, the remaining outfield positions remain in flux. While Brandon Nimmo was initially slated for left field, the Mets might shift him back to center field in a more offense-driven configuration. In this scenario, Jurickson Profar could be an ideal fit for the other corner outfield spot opposite Soto.
Profar is coming off a career-best season, hitting .280 with 24 home runs and 85 RBIs for the San Diego Padres. He accumulated 3.6 WAR in 2024, proving his ability to deliver in key moments. Projected to sign a two-year, $25.8 million deal, Profar’s production could make this contract a steal for the Mets. Adding him would elevate the Mets’ outfield to one of the strongest in Major League Baseball.
According to Baseball Savant, Profar ranked in the 94th percentile for batting run value last season. While his defensive capabilities are not elite, his offensive output more than compensates. His addition would also strengthen the Mets’ lineup, which finished fifth in the National League in 2024 with 768 runs, even with Pete Alonso’s contributions.
Currently, the Mets’ roster includes Starling Marte, Jose Siri, and Tyrone Taylor. However, one or more of them is likely to be traded or designated for assignment to make room for Profar. His arrival would represent a significant upgrade over the existing options and further enhance the Mets’ run production capabilities as they aim for a competitive 2025 season.
