Despite enduring a seven-year playoff drought, the Atlanta Falcons have high expectations for their inaugural season under new coach Raheem Morris. This is precisely why general manager Terry Fontenot emphasizes the significance of securing a franchise quarterback this offseason. In a recent mock draft by CBS Sports, the Falcons are depicted not only addressing this need but also engaging in a trade with the New England Patriots to secure the No. 3 overall pick.

With this coveted selection, CBS Sports predicts the Falcons will choose Jayden Daniels, the Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback from LSU Tigers. Daniels brings with him an impressive record of 55 games as a starter, split between Arizona State and LSU, where he achieved over 12,000 passing yards and 3,000 rushing yards, a feat unmatched in FBS history. Additionally, he stands out as the sole FBS player in the 21st century to maintain an average of over 300 passing yards and 75 rushing yards per game in a single season.

Thanks to the deliberate rebuilding efforts led by Fontenot and his team in recent years, the Falcons’ offense appears well-equipped to support their next franchise quarterback. Benefiting from three top-10 NFL Draft picks acquired during their playoff absence, the team has secured talents like Kyle Pitts, Drake London, and Bijan Robinson. Adding a quarterback of Daniels’ caliber suggests the Falcons possess one of the league’s youngest and most promising cores. At the very least, they expect their rookie signal-caller to bring competence to the table.
