On Thursday, the Montreal Alouettes revealed that they’ve inked deals with two American linebackers, Jeremy Banks and Troy Brown, who both previously competed for teams within the SEC.

 

LB Jeremy Banks – (24 y/o, 6’1, 224 lbs)

Jeremy Banks initially showcased his talents as a running back for the Tennessee Volunteers during his collegiate years, rushing 52 times for 185 yards and scoring 3 touchdowns in his freshman season of 2018.

Transitioning to the linebacker position in 2019, Banks exhibited his versatility over the next four years, participating in 37 games from 2019 to 2022. Throughout this period, he accumulated impressive defensive statistics, including 109 solo tackles, 110 assisted tackles, 18 tackles for loss, 10 passes defended, 5.5 sacks, and a forced fumble. Notably, in 2021, he emerged as a standout performer, leading his team with 128 total tackles, ranking second in the SEC, and seventh nationally.

In 2023, Banks secured a spot with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent. However, his time with the team was short-lived as he was released in June of the same year.

LB Troy Brown – Ole Miss (24 y/o, 6’1, 220 lbs)

Troy Brown initially began his college football journey at Central Michigan, where he took a redshirt year in 2017. Between 2018 and 2021, he participated in 41 games, showcasing impressive stats including 158 solo tackles, 57 assisted tackles, 31.5 tackles for loss, 17 passes defended, 5 interceptions, 6.5 sacks, and 3 forced fumbles.

His outstanding performance at Central Michigan earned him First Team All-MAC honors consecutively in 2019, 2020, and 2021, as well as the Herb Deromedi Team MVP award in 2019, which was voted on by his teammates.

For his final collegiate season in 2022, Brown made a transfer to Ole Miss, where he featured in all 13 games, starting in 12 of them. He led Ole Miss with 93 tackles and ranked second on the team with 5 pass breakups. In 2022, he recorded 44 solo tackles, 49 assisted tackles, 5 passes defended, 2.5 tackles for loss, 0.5 sacks, and a forced fumble. His performance earned him recognition as Third Team All-SEC by PFF.

In 2023, Brown joined the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent. However, his stint with the team was brief as he was placed on injured reserve on August 17 and subsequently waived from injured reserve on August 23.
