Breaking News: Sabres Confirmed The Addition Of Two Star Players To Their Roster

The Sabres have sent center Tyson Jost and goaltender Dustin Tokarski back to the AHL’s Rochester Americans, according to a team statement released on Friday. This move puts Buffalo back below the 23-player roster limit, as both players had been brought up on emergency loans.

Jost, aged 25, was called up on Monday due to concerns about an injury to top-line winger Jeff Skinner, who left practice with an undisclosed injury that required imaging. However, Skinner ultimately didn’t miss any games and played in both of the Sabres’ games this week against the Panthers and Lightning, resulting in Jost not seeing any game time since being waived in late December.

Meanwhile, Tokarski was brought to Tampa with the team as a precautionary measure while an illness was spreading among the group, ensuring they had a third goalie available in case Eric Comrie or Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen couldn’t play. However, Tokarski didn’t dress for the overtime win last night, with only veteran defenseman Erik Johnson unavailable due to illness.

Both Jost and Tokarski have faced challenges in the minors after previously having full-time roles with Buffalo in recent years. Jost managed just four points in 29 NHL games with a -7 rating after signing a one-year, $2M deal to stay in Buffalo last summer. Since his reassignment, he has recorded three goals and 13 points in 23 games for Rochester, which falls short of the production expected from a player chosen with the 10th overall pick in 2016.

Tokarski, who had previously made an impact as Buffalo’s backup goalie a few seasons ago, has now settled into an AHL role. The 34-year-old Saskatchewan native has posted a 3.32 GAA, .892 SV percentage, and a 7-7-3 record in 18 games for Rochester this season, without any NHL appearances.
