BREAKING NEWS: Arizona Diamondbacks Confirms The Signing Of Another Top Player

The Arizona Diamondbacks made an announcement on Sunday that they’ve signed veteran infielder Elvis Andrus to a minor league contract, extending him an invitation to participate in big league spring training.

Manager Torey Lovullo emphasized that no promises have been made to Andrus regarding his role. Lovullo encouraged Andrus to showcase his abilities on the field, with opportunities to demonstrate his skills. This prospect excites the team.

Andrus, a two-time All-Star, boasts a 15-season career in the majors, having played for the Texas Rangers, Oakland Athletics, and Chicago White Sox. His 2,091 career hits rank him third among active players, trailing only Joey Votto and Freddie Freeman.

Although primarily a shortstop throughout his career, the 35-year-old Andrus also saw action at second base for the White Sox last season. In that season, he posted a batting average of .251, along with six home runs and 44 RBIs.

With Geraldo Perdomo at shortstop and Ketel Marte at second base, Andrus is positioned to serve as a backup middle infielder for the Diamondbacks. Perdomo, who earned his first All-Star selection last season, adds to the team’s depth.

Lovullo stressed the importance of having a backup shortstop capable of seamlessly filling in for the starter. He described it as a “huge priority” and indicated that Andrus, given his skill set, will be in contention for relevant roster decisions. Andrus will be given ample opportunity to compete for his place on the team, a prospect that Lovullo views positively.
