Elias Lindholm’s potential departure from the Vancouver Canucks, having played only 14 games, raises speculation about his destination, with the Boston Bruins possibly re-entering the picture. Initially, rumors of the Bruins pursuing Lindholm faded when the Calgary Flames traded him to the Canucks on January 31.

However, with the Canucks possibly seeking another impactful forward before the March 8 trade deadline, Lindholm might be back on the market. The Athletic’s Chris Johnston suggests that the Canucks, amidst their pursuit of Jake Guentzel from the Penguins, are considering flipping Lindholm to the Bruins to facilitate a deal.

Report: Canucks could flip Elias Lindholm to Bruins in larger trade

Though this proposal is complex and still lacks concrete details, it could significantly strengthen Boston’s top-six lineup for the playoffs. Lindholm’s ability to drive play, excel in faceoffs, and bolster defense would be valuable additions.

Lindholm has a history of exceeding 60 points in a season and is known for defensive contributions, finishing second in Selke Trophy voting in 2021-22. His faceoff prowess, especially crucial for Boston given their struggles in this area, could be a game-changer.

While Vancouver initially acquired Lindholm at a high cost, their need to create cap space for potential acquisitions like Guentzel might make Lindholm more attainable this time.

Lindholm’s performance with the Canucks has been lackluster, with a scoreless streak in his last nine games. However, he could still command a significant salary increase in free agency this summer, making his acquisition a financial consideration for the Bruins, who could see him as a long-term asset alongside Charlie Coyle.
