According to reports, Newcastle United has come to an ‘agreement’ to transfer winger Miguel Almiron to a club in the Saudi Pro League. Despite being one of the wealthiest clubs globally, Newcastle is constrained by Financial Fair Play regulations, preventing them from freely spending in the transfer market.

In the summer, the Magpies spent approximately £130m to acquire players like Sandro Tonali, Tino Livramento, Harvey Barnes, and Lewis Hall. However, it is now widely reported that they will be ‘compelled to sell’ Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak, who are sought after by Liverpool and Arsenal, respectively, to alleviate their ongoing FFP issues.

Earlier this month, Newcastle’s CEO Darren Eales acknowledged the necessity to “trade players” at certain points. Eales stated that decisions would always prioritize the medium to long-term benefit of the club, emphasizing the occasional need to trade players for their progress.

Adding to their challenges, Bayern Munich is reportedly targeting England international Kieran Trippier, who has allegedly ‘approved’ the transfer. Until now, no Newcastle players had been linked with moves to Saudi Pro League clubs owned by the Public Investment Fund (PIF). However, journalist Ben Jacobs revealed on Monday that there is a “provisional agreement” between Newcastle and Al-Shabab for Almiron.

Jacobs tweeted: “Al-Shabab and Newcastle have reached a provisional agreement over Miguel Almiron. It’s understood Almiron is open to the move, but the deal is not done yet.” Almiron, a 29-year-old Paraguay international, has been performing well under manager Eddie Howe. With 11 Premier League goals in the 2022/23 season, he has contributed to four goals in 21 appearances this term.

Although Almiron is under contract until 2026 and has been impressive for Newcastle, the club seems inclined to replace him with a better alternative as they aspire to establish themselves as an elite club. Additionally, a report from PA News Agency on Sunday revealed that Newcastle rejected a loan offer from Bayern Munich for key defender Kieran Trippier and rebuffed a similar approach from Atletico Madrid for striker Callum Wilson.
