The Buffalo Bills made a significant move on Monday by signing nickel cornerback Taron Johnson to a three-year contract extension, ensuring his presence with the team through the 2027 season.

At 27 years old, Johnson, who earned his first All-Pro selection recently, was set to enter the final season of a three-year extension he signed in 2021. The Bills drafted Johnson in the fourth round of the 2018 draft from Weber State, and he has been a key starter for the team since 2020.

This extension provides the Bills with crucial continuity, especially amidst significant changes in their secondary. Notably, starting cornerback Tre’Davious White and starting safety Jordan Poyer were released two weeks ago, while starting safety Micah Hyde is contemplating retirement. This trio had been instrumental for the Bills since 2017.

In the previous season, Johnson showcased his impact by contributing to 98 tackles and forcing three fumbles, setting career highs in both categories, along with recording a sack. His standout performance occurred during a 14-9 victory over the New York Giants on Oct. 15, where he amassed a career-high 15 tackles and broke up a pass in the end zone on the final play.

Overall, Johnson has accumulated four interceptions, seven forced fumbles, and seven sacks in his 88-game career, which includes 67 starts. His versatility and playmaking ability make him a valuable asset for the Bills as they navigate changes in their defensive lineup.
