Former Four-Star Recruit Commits to NC State Football Over UNC
Dave Doeren, the head coach of NC State football, and his staff had to select a couple good linebackers from this year’s portal. As of Friday night, they have now acquired two, as one-year Alabama athlete Sterling Dixon became a Wolfpack transfer prize, joining another recent pledge, former Norfolk State sophomore AJ Richardson.
Upon concluding his visit to NC State that same day, Dixon made his commitment public on social media. Sterling Dixon’s decision to commit to NC State football is even sweeter for head coach Dave Doeren and his staff, as it came just one day after Dixon visited rival UNC. After entering the transfer portal last week, Dixon attracted offers from multiple programs, including NC State, UNC, Minnesota, Liberty, Oklahoma, West Virginia, and Houston.
The 6-foot-3, 211-pound talent, a former four-star recruit from Spanish Fort High School in Alabama, was ranked No. 202 overall and No. 18 among edge rushers in the 247Sports 2024 Composite. Despite limited action at Alabama—appearing in only four games—Dixon heads to Raleigh with four years of eligibility remaining.
