Auburn Adds Commitment from Son of Former San Francisco 49ers 1st-Round Pick
The Auburn Tigers continue their momentum in recruiting with a significant addition: Devin Carter, the nation’s No. 5 wide receiver.
Carter, a standout in the 2026 class from Douglas County High School in Douglasville, Georgia, brings elite talent to Auburn’s wide receiver corps. The son of Dexter Carter, a former Florida State running back and 1990 NFL first-round pick, Devin has a natural gift for the game. Known for his ability to create separation from defenders, Carter’s 2024 stats, according to MaxPreps, include 41 receptions for 669 yards and five touchdowns.
Ranked as the No. 26 overall player by ESPN, Carter plays in a balanced offensive system, which limits touches but showcases his efficiency and impact. His HUDL highlights confirm his status as one of the nation’s most coveted recruits. Auburn’s recruiting class, currently ranked No. 6 nationally by 247Sports, is bolstered by Carter’s commitment.
One play epitomizes Carter’s talent: a sideline-tightrope, leaping catch against Carrollton High School, one of Georgia’s top teams. This play demonstrated not only his athleticism but also his football IQ. His speed, ability to catch in traffic, knack for finding soft spots in zones, and exceptional hand-eye coordination make him a versatile threat.
At 6 feet tall and 165 pounds, Carter often faces extra defensive attention in high school, including bracket coverage and safety help. At Auburn, however, he’ll benefit from a talented supporting cast that includes receivers Malcolm Simmons, Cam Coleman, Bryce Cain, Sam Turner, Erick Smith, and Derick Smith. This depth ensures defenses can’t focus solely on Carter, allowing him to thrive in both the slot and outside positions.
Carter’s skill set extends beyond deep-ball receptions. He’s a weapon on screens and short passes, using his agility and quickness to evade defenders and turn routine plays into explosive gains. His ability to capitalize on single coverage will be a significant asset for Auburn’s offense.
While Carter still has one more high school season, Auburn fans can look forward to his arrival in 2026, as he’s poised to make a substantial impact on the Tigers’ program.
